WHERE WE STAND

2026 (IN PRODUCTION)

ENVIRONMENTAL | ACTIVISM | ENGLISH, DUTCH, SPANISH, TAGALOG, CEBUANO, QUECHUA

Scientists have been sounding the alarm for decades and politicians have been negotiating for just as long.  And yet fossil fuels still plays a major role in the global economy – to the detriment of human and planetary health. A growing number of citizens are now asking the courts for help.

WHERE WE STAND goes behind the scenes with plaintiffs and lawyers on three climate-related legal cases against the fossil fuel industry – from the melting glaciers of Peru, the sinking islands of the Philippines and the flood-prone deltas of the Netherlands.  The Dutch and Peruvian cases have already set important legal precedents that are likely to accelerate the trend for global climate litigation, though the defendants, Shell and RWE, have avoided accountability so far. The third case from the Philippines will be making its way through the UK courts over the next few years.

This is an international collaborative project, with established filmmakers each covering the story closest to them.
